Dr. Ilias A. Perogamvros was born in Piraeus in 1979 and hails from Stemnitsa, Arcadia. He proudly declares himself an Arcadian!

 

He graduated in 1997 from "Platon" school, excelling in all grades. He placed 6th in the national university entrance exams and was admitted to the Medical School of the University of Athens, receiving a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) for outstanding performance throughout his studies. He graduated in July 2003 with honors ("Excellent") and received a special award from the Dean of the University of Athens for his academic achievements.

 

In 2010, he completed his PhD at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, which was ranked as the 7th best university in Europe according to major international rankings at the time. For his research on the biological actions of glucocorticoids, he received scholarships from, among others, the Onassis Foundation, the Royal College of Physicians of the UK, and the University of British Columbia in Canada, where he also completed his research work. Since 2010, he holds a PhD in Medicine and is a Research Associate at the Medical Schools of the University of Manchester and the University of British Columbia.

 

In 2014, he completed his specialty training in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism after training at the Endocrinology Clinic of Christie Hospital in Manchester (2007-2010, under Prof. Peter J Trainer), the 2nd Internal Medicine Clinic of the University of Athens (2010-2012), and the Endocrinology Clinic of "Evangelismos" Hospital (2012-2014).

 

He is a member of the Endocrinology Societies in Greece, the USA, and the UK. For many years, he has actively contributed to major international Endocrinology conferences through lectures and presentations. Additionally, he serves as a peer reviewer for high impact factor scientific journals in the field, as well as for the annual ENDO conference of the American Endocrine Society. His research has been published in leading Endocrinology journals, and he is among the academic authors of Oxford Desk Reference: Endocrinology, published by Oxford University Press in 2018.

 

Since April 2017, he has been a member of the Onassis Foundation Scholars' Association.

In his free time, he explores his passion for music as a composer and radio producer. His symphonic rock compositions have been released internationally, earning global recognition.
